AEON PHILOSOPHY
JEWELLERY IS HISTORY, MADE INTIMATE
The name AEON derives from the ancient Greek aiōn (αἰών): time understood not simply as chronology, but as duration — what passes, what survives, and what is carried forward.
AEON is an independent Paris gallery devoted to jewellery, engraved gems and precious objects from Antiquity to the twentieth century.
At AEON, jewellery is approached as material culture as much as adornment. Few objects are more closely connected to the body, or more capable of carrying biography: they are worn, handled, inherited, altered, lost, rediscovered and passed from one generation to another.
The collection is deliberately non-linear. A Roman intaglio may sit beside a signed twentieth-century jewel; an archaeological fragment beside an object conceived for modern dress. What connects them is not period, but the strength of the idea, the intelligence of the making, the quality of the material, the history of ownership and, ultimately, presence.
Particular attention is given to provenance, attribution and the identities of the makers behind the great maisons — the engravers, goldsmiths and specialist workshops whose work is often more revealing than the signature on the finished jewel.
AEON is interested in objects that reward close looking: pieces whose significance may be historical, technical or cultural, but whose appeal remains immediate.
They are not presented as relics of a fixed past. They are objects to be studied, worn, lived with and, in time, passed on.
THE FOUNDER
Gina Margarethe Woitke is the founder of AEON.
Her professional life began at a young age in international fashion, working across Paris, Milan, London and New York. This early experience shaped a sensitivity to proportion, silhouette and presence — and, in particular, to the relationship between an object and the person who wears it.
Her focus subsequently shifted to the art market. Since 2017, her work with art and antiquities dealers has taken her to leading international fairs including TEFAF Maastricht, BRAFA and La Biennale Paris, offering first-hand exposure to the standards of research, presentation and collector relations that underpin the international art market.
She later gained experience at Christie’s Brussels, Maruani Mercier and Antiquorum Paris and Monaco, developing practical knowledge of cataloguing, provenance research, jewellery handling, collector relations, international logistics and the workings of the auction market.
She is an HRD Antwerp Certified Diamond Grader and holds the GIA Applied Jewelry Professional diploma, alongside further training in applied gemmology and jewellery expertise. She also completed Art as a Global Business: Dynamics of the Art Market at Sotheby’s Institute of Art.
Her particular interests lie in ancient glyptic art, signed nineteenth- and twentieth-century jewellery, provenance, and the makers’ marks that bring to light the artisans and specialist workshops behind the great maisons.
AEON emerged from the meeting of these different disciplines: an eye first shaped by fashion, an understanding of the art market acquired from within, technical training in gemmology and jewellery, and a longstanding interest in objects through which history remains tangible.
Rather than being defined by a single period, maison or style, the gallery is guided by a consistent point of view. Gina looks for works that reward scrutiny — formally, historically and materially — while retaining the immediacy and presence that make an object compelling before its story is even known.
In September 2026, AEON makes its first presentation at Fine Arts Paris, exhibiting in the Nouveaux Horizons section at the Grand Palais.
