Cartier / Gay Frères — Frog Pin, c. 1992
Cartier / Gay Frères — Frog Pin, c. 1992
A charming and highly collectible Cartier frog pin, made in Paris by the celebrated workshop Gay Frères circa 1992.
Modelled as a stylised frog in 18-carat yellow gold, the jewel is enlivened with vivid green enamel detailing, while the eyes are set with cabochon rubies. Its diminutive scale and sculptural design give the piece a playful character while retaining the refinement associated with Cartier’s animal jewels.
The reverse is signed CARTIER, numbered 66585, and bears the maker’s mark of Gay Frères, one of the most important specialist jewellery workshops of the twentieth century.
Gay Frères produced jewellery for several of the great international maisons, and its work for Cartier is particularly sought after by collectors.
A distinctive and wearable example of late twentieth-century Cartier jewellery, combining colour, humour and exceptional Parisian craftsmanship.
