Van Cleef & Arpels — Diamond Heart Pendant, c. 1970–80

A refined diamond-set heart pendant by Van Cleef & Arpels, crafted in 18K gold and platinum.

The pendant is signed V.C.A., individually numbered by hand, and bears the French eagle’s-head hallmark for 18K gold together with the dog’s-head hallmark for platinum.

Of particular interest is the partially preserved maker’s mark attributed to the Parisian workshop of Jean-Thierry Bondt, the specialist orfèvre responsible for the execution of the jewel.

This workshop mark offers a rare insight into the production of signed French jewellery: while the Van Cleef & Arpels signature identifies the Maison, the maker’s mark records the independent Parisian atelier entrusted with its manufacture.

Elegant, discreet and highly wearable, the pendant combines the instantly recognisable heart motif with the refined workmanship associated with Van Cleef & Arpels.
